Some of the most common causes of halitosis are bacteria in the mouth, poor oral hygiene, and smoking, among others. To cure bad breath, it is important to know the root cause, which very often will start with a good oral hygiene.

Here are a few tips to stop bad breath with a good oral hygiene:

Brush your teeth regularly.

It may not be necessary to mention this as it is learned as our teeth start growing. But you would not believe how many people forget to brush their teeth at least twice per day and if possible after every meal. As mentioned above bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth; if you brush after every meal, the bacteria will not have the time to start their 'work' on your teeth. Also do not forget to clean your tongue as bacteria can get stuck on there too.

Drink a lot.

Water preferably. Keep your mouth wet almost all the time. Know that bacteria grow faster when the mouth is dry.

Floss your teeth.

Bacteria can get in every corner of your mouth and between your teeth is their favorite. Brushing alone does not get rid of food that gets stuck between teeth. Make sure that you keep your dental floss handy. Along with the floss it is a good idea to have a mouth wash.

Bad breath is not funny to live with. If you have tried all the tips above and still have a foul breath, I would suggest you to see your dentist as your problem may be more complicated.

How to Get Rid of Bad Breath

By Isobel Paolini

The problem with bad-breath is often that you don't even know that you have a problem with breath odor, so the solution for how to get rid of bad breath does not even surface. Most of us will have problems with bad-breath at one time or another in our lives. foul breath can be caused by varying factors. Most of the time, sporadic bad breath problems are caused by a change in diet. So how do you solve this problem of stinky breath?

The first thing that you can do is to try and eliminate foods that are causing the bad breath. Certain meat products can sit around for much longer periods in your intestines than is normal, this can cause you to have odor problems. There are also the bad odor problems caused by smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, or eating garlic. There is really only one solution to these stinky breath problems and that is to stop eating or drinking the products which is causing the nasty breath.

Another factor in the solution for how to get rid of bad breath is dental hygiene. A good dental hygiene routine will involve brushing your teeth at least twice a day; this will help to keep the surface of your teeth clear from plaque buildup. You should also floss regularly to get rid of those bits of built-up foods that are trapped between your teeth. Another cause of bad breath is the buildup of bacteria in your mouth. You can solve this problem by using a tongue cleaner to clean the bacteria from your tongue and a good antibacterial mouthwash to help kill the bacteria that is lurking around the rest of your mouth.
Another method of get rid of bad breath is to try and change your diet. Eat as many whole foods as you can this will help to bring your system around to a more natural balance. A bad breath solution is really not that difficult to come up with if you try the right combination of treatments. If all else fails you should visit your dental hygienist or physician.

Checking For Bad Breath Accurately

By Jeff M Ray

Bad breath is really embarrassing to have. After periods of keeping your mouth inactive may cause you to have this kind breath. There are even times that even if you are talking and talking, you may feel that you have smelly breath. This is why before you make sure that you talk to someone, you need to check for bad breath.

The most convenient way for you to confirm smelly breath is to lick the back of your hand. All you have to do is to lick your hand a little and allow it to dry. Smell it and if it is unpleasant, you might be suffering from bad breath. Make sure that your hands are clean when you do this.

A cotton swab can also test for this kind of breath. This is seen as the most accurate way to check for your breath. You need to scrape your tongue or inner check with the swab. Allow is to dry and smell it.

Your toothpick is one of the most helpful tools that you can use when you check for smelly breath besides from removing food residue. All you need to do it to scrape your teeth or tongue and check for the smell. The small size of the toothpick will be perfect to reach even in the small corners of your teeth.

If you already feel that you have this kind of breath, maybe it is time to go to the rest room and brush your teeth. Make sure that you also carry mints or sugarless gum so that when you do have smelly breath, you will have an instant fix. People will not have to suffer talking to you especially if you do really have this kind of breath. Save yourself from the embarrassment and check for bad breath regularly and as often as possible.

The Amazing Solar Toothbrush That Cleans Teeth And Cures Bad Breath

By Nat Jay

If this sounds like the title from a 1950's DC comic book, well, you are both partially right and would well be forgiven for thinking so. Fact is, scientists around the world do come up with inventions that warrant these kinds of headlines. It says a lot about comic books and scientists, but that's besides the point.

The point is, if you thought an electric toothbrush was the ultimate answer to a wholesome, scientifically accurate and 'lazy' brushing experience, then hear this out: Scientists in Japan came up with something that uses just LIGHT to clean your teeth -- They call it a "solar toothbrush" that works through an ingenious, energy-saving and environmentally-friendly photochemical reaction. And the best thing about it is, it does all its cleaning without requiring either water or toothpaste!

Talk about a high tech cure for lazy mornings and bad breath!

It's been clinically tested and approved in both Japan and Canada to give the kind of cleaning experience that no toothpaste, toothbrush, mint or spray on the planet can give. It cleans your teeth thoroughly and produces a sense of freshness and zing in your mouth that feels (quite unusually) clean to the T.

It's actually NOT unusual that the Japanese chose light as the basis of their cleaning technology -- Light has been scientifically proven and known for centuries to be an effective destroyer of germs. (If you've ever focused the sun's rays through a magnifying lens onto a sheet of paper or a patch of dry grass, you'll know what I'm talking about).

It's reported that the solar toothbrush offers a near-permanent cure for oral ailments -- including gingivitis, tartar and plaque, bad breath and tooth decay.

And the fact that the whole mechanism is hands-free makes it even more attractive to those who hate trudging to the bathroom at 6 in the morning and hunting for your toothbrush, groping for the toothpaste, and beginning the routine of the day. How boring!

Imagine just plugging the solar toothbrush in your mouth and going back to sleep while it does its job -- though I wouldn't recommend you actually go to sleep! And the fact is, unlike your normal toothbrush that needs replacing every 3-4 months, the solar toothbrush needs no replacing. The main body never wears out, and the only thing you need to replace is the brush head -- that too only once every 6 months or so. And they're dirt cheap; the cost of your regular toothbrush.

Teeth and Bad Breath

By R. Drysdale

Many people assume an association between teeth and bad breath (halitosis). In many instances they are right: some cases of bad breath are associated with poor dental hygiene, dental cavities, and gum disease (though many are not). Fortunately, when oral malodor is caused by these dental problems, the problem is relatively easy to correct. Like other causes of oral malodor, the unpleasant smell is the result of bacterial multiplication in the mouth.

The role of dental cavities in halitosis usually begins with poor dental hygiene and a lack of regular professional dental care. If you don't brush and floss your teeth regularly, plaque forms on the outside surfaces due to the activities of oral bacteria. Plague that remains on the teeth causes a buildup of hard tartar, also teeming with oral bacteria. In additional, food particles caught between the teeth are broken down by bacteria. Many of these bacteria produce unpleasant smelling gases as byproducts of metabolism, and some break down tooth enamel. Thus they cause both decaying teeth and bad breath.

Tooth decay, of course, results in cavities-holes in the teeth in which more food particles become trapped, bacteria gain entrance and multiply, and healthy tissues break down. All of these things increase the amounts of unpleasant smelling gases being produced and exhaled from the mouth. Thus, decaying teeth and bad breath are directly linked. When inflammation spreads to the gums, or a decaying tooth develops an abscess, the role of dental cavities in halitosis is even more pronounced.

Gum disease provides an indirect link between teeth and bad breath. When gums become inflamed and/or infected, they may allow bacteria to multiply between the gum and the tooth, and sometimes even around the root of the tooth, creating a dental abscess. Inflamed tissues slough off dead cells as well, which are then consumed by bacteria, encouraging bacterial growth. The more odor-producing bacteria present, the more oral malodor produced.

The role of dental cavities in halitosis, combined with the effect of other dental problems, is so well understood, that anyone suffering from a breath problem is well advised to consult a dental professional and have their oral health assessed before pursuing other possible causes of this common condition.

Bad Dog Breath Solution Without Surgical Teeth Cleaning

By Brigitte Smith

The foul smell of canine bad breath is something that no dog owner wants for their pet.

In particular, it is not something you want to smell whenever you cuddle with your dog. If the causes of bad breath in your dog is properly identified then it is easy to treat this problem with a number of cures available. But if the problem is merely caused by improper hygiene then there is a non-medical bad dog breath solution that can be used - you just add it to your dog's drinking water.

The following tips are simple yet tested ways to help relieve your dog's foul smelling breath and to prevent unnecessary surgical teeth cleaning procedures that many vets are fond of.

Simply follow them and for sure, you will not be smelling bad breath in your dog. That is, its smell will change from stale to fresh!

1. Some bad breath is actually caused by bacteria in the area outside the teeth. So, curing bad breath is easily solved with the use of a handy wet wipe or gauze. Because the area outside the teeth is a breeding ground for bacteria, a dog owner should clean try to clean it out twice a day. This will decrease the density of the bacteria in the dog's mouth. With fewer bacteria, there will be less foul smelling odor.

2. Cure bad breath by giving the dog lots of drinking water to drink. Drinking water is not only good for health but will also decrease the chances of bad breath. Water washes away food particles and bacteria. Since bacteria will grow on food, it will also decrease the density of the bacteria in the dog's mouth.

3. Treat bad breath by using something that will serve as a dental floss for the dog. Of course, flossing will be next to impossible for a dog. However, we need to make sure that the food particles stuck in its teeth are taken out. This is important because the food particles trapped in the dog's teeth are breeding grounds for bacteria. A hard biscuit or treat will do the trick. As the dog chews on the hard biscuit, it will scrape the food particles in its teeth.

Also, the tartar deposits in the teeth will be taken out. This can be done on a regular basis to get rid of the food particles trapped in the dog's teeth. When the dog chews on something hard, make sure that you do not use anything that might do more damage than good. Some bones may actually not be good for them. An example of this harmful bone would be the chicken's bone.

4. Believe it or not, you can cure a dog's bad breath with gum. Chewing gum will stimulate the dog's mouth into cleaning out the food particles and plaque in the teeth. Many animal food product companies have produced different types of chewing gums for dogs. Chewing gum is also great at hiding the problem temporarily especially if the smell has gone from bad to worse. It is also important to look for a gum that is free of sugar. To me, this is really going over the top, and I don't recommend giving your dog chewing gum of any type.

5. Brush your dog's teeth. Keep the teeth clean and free from plaque just by brushing them regularly.

If observed carefully, these tips will save a dog owner some trouble and expensive trips to the vet. And your favorite pooch will always smell fresh.
